Dawson Society Conference on Home
Some readers might remember a few years ago, my friend Dr Tom Gourlay, who is senior lecturer at the Catholic Institute of Western Australia, posted the first part of a trilogy on the lonely city (with another guest contribution by Kamila Soh).
Those who know Gourlay would know that he is also one of the masterminds behind The Dawson Society, which organises frequent speaker events and podcasts, as well as being responsible for the wonderful 2018 conference on the theme of 1968 (which later on became a book in which I made a small contribution). I had the privilege of presenting for the Dawson Society at their speaker series as well as at the 1968 conference.
I am pleased to say that the Dawson Society will be hosting another conference in 2025, on the theme of Home. Special guests include Dr Marc Barnes of New Polity, Anna Krohn of the National Civic Council and Emeritus Professor John Kinder, who facilitated a masterclass in Dante’s Divine Comedy for Dawson.
The conference will explore the topic of home from a variety of viewpoints, encompassing a multitude of disciplines, focal points and concerns. If accepted, I hope to be able to further my research on theology and migration which has been ongoing since its inception during my stint as visiting research professor at DePaul University.
The conference will be held in Perth from 10-12 July 2025, and a call for papers is currently out with a deadline of 31 March 2025. Further details on abstract submissions can be found in the poster below.
